An exhibition of the original
watercolours from the book “Provence Sketchbook”
A French artist and a British writer combine their talents to pay
homage to the beauties of Provence.
They invite us to share their journey as they vividly bring to
life this well loved region.
Capturing light and shadow, revealing historical or picturesque details,
conveying the atmosphere of a town, a street, a landscape –
this is their tour de force. The artist
Fabrice Moireau is a graduate of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure
des Arts Appliqués. An assiduous traveller, he creates sketchbooks
which, delightful to the eye, are also cultural and ethnographic documents.
Exhibitions of his watercolours demonstrate his passion for architectural
heritage and nature. His other books, also part of the successful
‘Sketchbook ‘ series ( Edition du Pacifique ) include
Paris, Venice, and New York. The writer
John Burdett is a bestselling British novelist. Formerly a high-flying
lawyer in Hong Kong, he gave everything up, aged 50, to write full-time.
He now lives between Southern France and Bangkok. Smart and funny,
candid and highly evocative – these attributes, coupled with
meticulous research, make Burdett’s text for “Provence
Sketchbook” a wonderful read.
From the splendours of the Alpilles to the rocky Calanques of Cassis,
from the ancient citadel of the Baux de Provence to the Roman theatre
in Orange, this
exhibition and its accompanying book take us on a very special tour
of Provence, seen through artists’ eyes |
