Barbentane
"Not
far from Arles youll find the Chateau de Barbentane, a glorious
seventeenth century castle where a certain Provencal playfulness
meets with a Parisian je ne sais quoi. Its carming corner
cabinets inspired me when creating the entrance to this
romantic bedchamber." Julia de Bierre
This spacious
room, with its lofty ceiling, ancient terracotta floors, lime-washed
walls and original decorative details, is situated on the first
floor, overlooking the courtyard.
Carefully
chosen furnishings and objects evoke the warmth and charm of old-world
Provence.

The Josephine Baker Studio Suite
"Surely
the day will come when colour means nothing more than the skin tone,
when religion is seen uniquely as a way to speak ones soul;
when birth places have the weight of a throw of a dice and all men
are born free, when understanding breeds loves and brotherhood."
Josephine Baker
Situated
on the second floor this airy space has a loft-like feel. Sunny
and quiet, with a view over the courtyard and nearby roofs, the
suite provides inspiration to writers, artists and dreamers.
Marble foors, pale cream walls and 20th century collectibles
recreate the glamorous spirit of Riviera Art Deco. Prints,
paintings and photographs pay subtle homage to Josephine Baker,
the pioneering dancer, singer, civil rights activist and member
of the French Resistance.

The Marco Polo Suite
"Marco
Polo (1254 1324) is probably the most famous Westerner to
have travelled on the Silk Road, embarking from his native Venice
on an epic journey to Cathay (China). An account of his journey,
'The travels of Marco Polo' became one of the most popular books
in medieval Eruope and later inspired poets such as Coleridge:
In Xanadu did Kubla Khan." A stately pleasure-dome decree
This
sun-filled suite, comprising a master bedroom and a sitting room
with a fully equipped kitchen, is situated on the 2ndfloor,
facing the Rue de la Calade.
A row of tall windows provides a beautiful view over the picturesque
rooftops of the old town and the church of Sainte-Trophime.
Lovingly restored, the suite has retained the charm and authenticity
of an 18th century patrician home. Sino-Venetian details
provide a fine touch of exoticism.

How to reach

By train
Arles train
station is on Avenue Paulin Talabot, about a 15 minute walk to Galerie
Huit. Consult www.voyages-sncf.com for up to
date train timetables and tickets. If you have heavy luggage the
number for the recommended taxi service is 04 90 96 90 03
(Taxi Radio Arles).
By car
The closest
and most secure parking is the paying Parking des Lices,
located on Boulevard des Lices, a 5 minute
walk from Galerie Huit
through the municipal gardens (see map). There are other parking
spaces available in the vicinity, some free and some paying – do
look carefully at the street signs, since cars can get towed away
due to the markets on Wednesday and Saturday.
If you have heavy luggage, we recommend you telephone 30 minutes
prior to your arrival, so that when you arrive
at Rue de la Calade we can quickly
help unload your luggage (like most of the centre of Arles, Rue
de la Calade is a narrow, one-way street). Once unloaded you
can proceed to a parking space.
By plane
The nearest
airports are Avignon, Nimes, Marseille and Montpellier. A 40 minute
train journey connects Marseille Vitrolles
to Arles. This website explains connections from all the airports:
