"Providing the individual artist with time and space for the creative process."

A multi-disciplinary artist residency has been hosted by Galerie Huit since 2008, with the aim to provide a creative and inspirational environment for both established and emerging artists including writers, photographers, composers, academics, archeologists, curators, painters, actors and poets. Artist in Residency at Galerie Huit (AiR) is a non-profit organization based in Arles, France and Penang, Malaysia.

Artist in Residency at Galerie Huit (AiR) is a non-profit organization based in Arles, France and Penang, Malaysia.

The principal residency is located in Arles, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1981, celebrated for its art festivals, architecture and history. Situated in the heart of this pedestrian-friendly town, Galerie Huit is minutes walking distance from Roman monuments, Renaissance palaces, religious edifices, world-class art museums and neighboring contemporary galleries.

Arles is home to numerous art festivals and events throughout the year, including:
- Les Rencontres d’Arles
- Les Suds
- Arles Contemporain
- Octobre Numérique/Databit.me

It is no surprise that Arles was voted the third Best Cultural Destination in France (2009). Arles has been the inspiring setting for many artists, including Pablo Picasso, photographer Lucien Clergue and Vincent Van Gogh, who created over 300 works here.
